Here's the story...
I had been friends with Joe (not his real name) since I was just a kid.
We grew up together, went through school and eventually found ourselves
in the same college together.
Me and Joe had a good time in college (maybe a little "too much" of a good
time!) and partied a lot.
The thing is, when I graduated and was no longer in that "party heavy"
environment I cut WAY back on my drinking.
I had a job, was saving to get a house, and only went out drinking on the
weekends ... or an occasional glass of wine with dinner.
Me and Joe stayed in touch after graduation ... but Joe's life didn't change
much after college ... he kept partying hard and drinking all through the
week.
It wasn't until Joe lost his first job out of college because of being
late too many times that...
I Suspected Joe Was Suffering From Alcoholism!
The more research doctors do, the more evidence they find that people who
abuse alcohol are suffering from a "disease".
While it's not a disease of the body (like the common cold) it is a disease
of the mind, and some people see more prone to suffering from this disease
than other people...
I suspected Joe might have been one of these people.
But I didn't know much about alcoholism and the information I got from
friends and family seemed to be tons of conflicting advice...
So I started doing some research on alcoholism...
How I Became An Alcoholism "Expert"
Okay, I'm not really an alcoholism "expert". But all my friends and family
think I am now, because I know more than the average person. Here's why...
I really decided I was going to figure out what causes alcoholism, what
the symptoms and signs were and what I could do to help my friend Joe recover
from it ... so I started studying.
I read everything I could find on the internet (a good place to start).
I got some magazines, some books, and talked to doctors and some people
at Alcoholics Anonymous about it
Here's what I found out...
Alcoholism Is A Pretty Simple Disease
It turns out, alcoholism is not that complicated a thing.
It's pretty easy to determine if you or someone you know is suffering from
alcoholism (there's a simple questionnaire professional treatment centers
use) ... and there are proven methods for beating the disease.
You just have to know a little bit about human nature ... what causes addictions
... and the lifestyle factors that encourage alcoholism.
Then you can zero in on what it is that's causing the alcoholism - and
either fix the problem or change the person's lifestyle to reduce the effect
it has on the disease.

I searched and searched for a good simple guide to alcoholism.
You know, a booklet that was low on fluff and just tells me what I need
